Dr. Nakashima received her dental degree from Kyushu University in 1984, and received a PhD in Endodontics from Kyushu University Graduate School in 1988.

She has been involved in endodontic research, education, and clinical practice at Kyushu University, and has investigated cell-based regenerative endodontics (pulp regenerative cell therapy) using dental pulp stem cells for permanent mature teeth with periapical lesions at National Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology, Research Institute. She is currently involved in clinical practice of the regenerative endodontics as a Director of Future Health Medical Corporation RD Dental Clinic at Kobe, Japan. Dr. Nakashima has published over 100 peer-reviewed manuscripts. She received the Distinguished Scientist Award from the Pulp Biology and Regeneration Group of the International Association of Dental Research in 2014, and the 2017 Journal of Endodontics Awards.
