(PO04) Understanding Eye Tracking Visual Behavior for the Improved CBCT Diagnosis and Treatment Planning in Endodontic Traumatic Dental Injuries

Abstract: This research aimed to investigate the intricate relationship between eye-tracking visual parameters and the precision of diagnoses and treatment plans for traumatic dental injuries (TDIs) in anterior teeth, utilizing cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). A total of 24 endodontic postgraduate residents, all of whom had undergone calibration, participated in this study. The method involved displaying a sequence of seven TDI cases through the Experiment Center software, integrated with an SMI eye-tracking device, capturing the participants’ eye movements as they analyzed CBCT image views. Following this, residents formulated their diagnoses and treatment plans. The association between the parameters of eye-tracking behavior and the accuracy of both diagnosis and treatment plans was examined using the Mann-Whitney test. The results highlighted a notable trend: a longer duration spent scanning the entire CBCT scan and a prolonged time until pathology detection were significantly associated with correct diagnosis and accurate treatment decisions. The findings of this study emphasize the critical role of understanding eye movements in interpreting CBCT scans, offering deeper insights into the enhanced diagnostic precision afforded by CBCT.
