(PO147) Quantification of Nanobubbles in Nanobubble Water After Activation by Sonic, Ultrasonic, and Diode Laser

Abstract: Endodontic irrigation solutions and techniques have been developed for the effective elimination of root canal debris and microorganisms. A newer approach to achieve this goal is the use of nanobubble water (NBW). NBW occurs when gases are dissolved in a solution, with nanoscopic gas domains of diameter less than 1 μm. These domains form stable colloids, called 'bulk nanobubbles.' NBW has been shown to enhance the removal of the smear layer and the tubular penetration of antibacterial medicaments without compromising dentinal microhardness. NBW is also known to cause the destruction of pathogenic gram-positive bacteria. However, the effectiveness of activation methods on the cavitation of nanobubbles has not been evaluated. This study aims at quantifying the nanobubbles in water when activated by sonic, ultrasonic, and diode laser, and the parameters required for cavitation by each of the methods. NBW was generated with a nanobubble generator (NBG) and a medical-grade pump, with deionized water recirculated for one hour. The zeta potential of the NBW was measured by a Zetasizer Nano ZS. The NBW was dispensed into simulated single root canals, which were activated by a sonic activator and ultrasonics for 60 sec each, and by a 980 nm diode laser at 1.5 W in continuous wave for 60 sec. The cavitated nanobubbles by the 3 methods were quantified, and a statistical analysis will be performed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software.
