I run a cell and molecular biology research lab in the Institute of Ageing and Chronic Disease at the University of Liverpool. My team and I investigate a variety of interesting projects that are mostly related in some way to the synthesis, assembly and function of the extracellular matrix. Current projects are working on transcription, pre-mRNA processing and splicing, protein interactions, cell behaviour, tissue structure and in vivo models.
The work we do relates to a number of human disease contexts including junctional epidermolysis bullosa, aniridia, and Pierson syndrome, or more generally to wound repair, developmental process and to cancer metastasis. In addition to our core questions, we have recently done some work in sun protection, which has received some national press attention and we have an ongoing project into skin tanning.
