(TC06) Endodontic Management of Radix Entomolaris: Case reports

Abstract: It is known that the mandibular first molar can display several anatomical variations. A major anatomical variant of the two-rooted mandibular first molar is a tooth with an additional root located lingually (radix entomolaris) or buccally (radix paramolaris). The objective of this presentation is to report the successful endodontic treatment of two cases of mandibular first molars with three roots and four canals. In these cases, radix entomolaris was detected by identifying the presence of a double or extra root outline in the preoperative radiograph, modifying the access opening, and carefully inspecting the pulp chamber. Canals were endodontically treated through cleaning, shaping, and obturation. Proper diagnosis is critical for identifying this additional root in order to prevent an unfavorable result. Clinicians should be aware of this unusual root and its root canal morphological variations in order to contribute to the successful outcome of root canal treatment.
