Dr. Flavia Teles received her DDS from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, certificate in periodontology from the Pontifical Catholic University, a Master in Science in periodontology from the State University of Rio de Janeiro and a Doctor of Medical Sciences in oral biology degree from Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM). She was a faculty member at the Forsyth Institute (Cambridge, MA) and HSDM (Boston, MA) (2009- 2014), a Research Associate Professor of Periodontology at UNC School of Dentistry (2014-2017). She is currently an Associate Professor of Microbiology at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine.
Dr. Teles’ work focuses on clinical and translational research in Periodontology and Oral Microbiology.
Dr. Teles is an editorial board member of the Journal of Dental Research, Journal of Periodontology and an Associate Editor for the Journal of Clinical Periodontology. Dr. Teles received the IADR Women in Science Award for Distinguished Research (2017), has been chair of the AADR Edward H. Hatton Awards Committee (2017-2018), vice president of the IADR Women in Science Network (2018-2019) and is a AADR Fellow (2021) and member of the Task Force on Design and Analysis in Oral Health Research (since 2021).
