Visiting Associate Professor

Dr. Chaves de Souza is a visiting associate professor of the Department of Endodontics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. She earned her dental degree from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She has a Master’s degree in Endodontics and a PhD degree in Materials Science. Her research focuses on the physical-chemical, mechanical and biological properties of endodontic materials and instruments, as well as on understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying apical periodontitis. She has published several peer-reviewed manuscripts in Endodontics and one book chapter in endodontic filling materials.
