NV-4 - Modified Apexification

The current AAE Clinical considerations for a regenerative endodontic procedure state that immature permanent teeth with necrotic pulp when the pulp space is not needed for a post/core in the final restoration would be suitable for the procedure. Therefore, many immature permanent non-vital teeth that have significant coronal tooth structure loss either from caries or trauma are treated by traditional apexification where no further root maturation would occur. A modified concept in treatment of immature permanent teeth with a necrotic pulp/apical periodontitis would be proposed in the presentation. With the Modified Apexification Procedure, it holds promise as an alternative treatment option for immature permanent teeth with necrotic pulp that needed post/core restoration. It allows successful treatment of these teeth, permitting not only healing/healed of apical periodontitis but also continuation of root development and apical closure as well as enabling subsequent restorative procedures like post/core crown to be performed.
