(TC35) Evaluation of Bone Healing in Endodontic Microsurgery Using Bone Window Technique

Abstract: The aim of this presentation is to evaluate bone healing after endodontic microsurgery using the bone window technique, as observed by cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Cases with an intact cortical buccal plate on diagnostic CBCT were treatment-planned for endodontic microsurgery using a bone window technique. The bone window was created by a Piezo Bone surgery device, and the bone block was stored in Hank's Balanced Salt Solution (HBSS). After the root-end surgery, the bone block was repositioned and stabilized with a collagen-based material. Patients were recalled at 5 to 37 months postoperatively for clinical and radiographical follow-up examinations. The healing of the bone and cortical plates was evaluated using the Penn 3D CBCT criteria. Of the 13 patients followed, 2 bone windows were removed during re-surgery due to dislodgment (15.4%), 2 patients had limited healing (15.4%), and 9 patients were healed (69.2%). The bone window and different patterns of healing from CBCT observation will be discussed.
