(TC61) Comparative Efficacy of Gutta-Percha Removal Techniques in Endodontic Retreatment: Experimental Insights

Abstract: Endodontic failures can be attributed to inadequacies in cleaning, shaping, and obturation, iatrogenic events, or reinfection of the root canal system when the coronal seal is compromised after the root canal treatment. Despite varied causes, the overarching issue often revolves around leakage. Non-surgical endodontic retreatment targets microleakage elimination, aiming to alleviate irritation to periapical tissues by clearing the root canal space. Effective removal of obturation material before routine treatment streamlines canal cleaning and shaping, increasing procedure efficacy. The purpose of this table clinic is to evaluate, in vitro, the performance of three file systems: EndoSequence Scout Files (Brasseler USA), 3D-XP Shaper (Brasseler USA), and Excalibur (Alvalon Biomed, USA) for nonsurgical endodontic retreatment on plastic premolars obturated with GuttaCore with BC Sealer or single cone compaction with BC Sealer in regard to the amount of remaining filling material inside the canal, debris extrusion, and operation time. We will evaluate the three systems with and without initiation of retreatment using System B for preliminary removal of obturating material. Our findings could reveal distinct efficiencies among file systems, informing clinicians on optimal approaches for successful root canal retreatment. This knowledge may refine clinical practices, minimizing treatment failures and ultimately enhancing patient outcomes.
