(PO122) Influence of the Level of Intracanal Disinfection on the Success of the Regenerative Endodontic Treatment

Abstract: The optimal concentration of antimicrobial agents that can effectively eradicate bacteria while allowing the survival of stem cells in regenerative endodontic cases is a topic of debate. This literature review aims to determine whether the level of intracanal disinfection (high or low) used in regenerative endodontic treatment (RET) can affect the success of the procedure. A literature review of clinical studies was conducted using various databases such as PubMed/Medline, Web of Science, Scopus, EMBASE, Cochrane, and Google Scholar. Eligibility criteria were determined, and the search strategy was established in four fields according to the PICO keywords. After removing duplicates, 12,783 studies were selected, and data were extracted by two independent observers based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. A database was then created, and the relevant information was entered for each selected paper. The level of disinfection was determined based on the concentration of irrigation solutions and intracanal medicaments. The clinical and radiographic success was compared between low and high-level disinfection, and the data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U-test and chi-squared test. Thirty-two studies were included to evaluate the impact of high and low-level intracanal disinfection in RET on clinical and radiographic parameters. The findings suggest that low- and high-level disinfection resulted in similar clinical success and radiographic root development (p > .05). This systematic review reveals that the clinical success, radiographic success, and apical root closure were comparable between low and high-level disinfection in RET.
