(PO131) Biological Markers in the Gingival Crevicular Fluid Associated with Invasive Cervical Resorption Repair: A Longitudinal Study in Human Subjects

Abstract: There is evidence that there is a decreased concentration of the biomarker IL-1RA in the gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) of a tooth with invasive cervical resorption (ICR) in comparison to that of a healthy tooth in the same individual. This supports the concept that biomarkers present in GCF play critical roles in the pathogenesis of ICR. The aim of this longitudinal study is to evaluate the changes in the levels of biomarkers (IL-1ẞ, IL-1RA, TNF-ɑ, OPN, OPG, RANKL) in the GCF of a tooth with ICR before and after ICR repair over time. Twenty-eight patients with at least one ICR tooth were recruited to participate in this study from 2019 to 2023. Out of 28 patients, 17 underwent treatment (surgical or non-surgical) for ICR repair. Samples were collected from the GCF of ICR teeth and healthy teeth at the time of diagnosis of ICR, 6 months, and 12 months after the ICR repair. Then they were analyzed to detect any change in biomarker levels. Preliminary results (from 12 samples so far) show that biomarkers TNF-ɑ and IL1-RA decrease over time in diseased teeth (p = .00012 and p = .053 respectively). In healthy teeth, biomarkers RANKL, IL1-ẞ, and IL1-RA decrease over time (p = .00095, p = .0025, and p = .015 respectively). As this study is still ongoing, complete results will be analyzed and available for the 2024 AAE meeting.
