(TC10) Single-Visit Root Canal Treatment for Lower Right First Molar with Chronic Apical Abscess and Gum Boil: A Case Report

Abstract: Chronic abscesses associated with gum boils are commonly encountered in endodontic practice and require prompt and effective management. It is important to note that chronic apical abscesses often result from a combination of factors, including microbial invasion, compromised immune response, and the presence of necrotic dental pulp. Timely and appropriate dental treatment, including root canal therapy, is necessary to address the underlying cause and resolve the abscess. The treatment options for a chronic apical abscess aim to eliminate the infection, preserve the tooth if possible, and promote healing. The specific treatment approach may vary depending on the severity of the abscess and the condition of the affected tooth. This clinical table aims to emphasize the management of a mandibular right first molar with a chronic abscess and gum boil through a single-visit root canal treatment approach. The combination of root canal debridement, instrumentation, obturation, and coronal restoration, accomplished with incision and drainage in a single appointment, led to the complete healing of the gum boil and favorable treatment outcomes. This treatment strategy offers a time-efficient and effective approach for cases presenting with similar clinical conditions. Further studies and long-term follow-up are warranted to validate the findings and support the use of single-visit root canal treatments in such cases.
