(TC11) Internal root resorption: A New Treatment Protocol Using Bioceramic Cements

Abstract:
Internal root resorption is an inflammatory process resulting in the loss of dentin due to the activation of dentinoclasts in the pulp. It is generally asymptomatic, beginning with the loss of the protective layer of predentin, and is diagnosed radiographically. The prognosis is guarded in advanced stages as resorption spreads and communicates with the periodontal ligament, highly compromising tooth strength. Hydraulic cements (bioceramics) are currently the most suitable materials available for managing these cases. The aim of this table clinic presentation is to demonstrate a novel and innovative technique for sealing root canals in cases of advanced perforating internal root resorption. Two consistencies of bioceramic cement are used for sealing: apically, AH Plus Bioceramic (Dentsply Sirona); and Bio C Repair (Angelus) in a putty-like consistency for the resorption area. This technique involves using several types of endodontic instruments to achieve perfect adaptation of the sealing material to the root canal walls. A new temporary bioceramic material, Bio C-Temp (Angelus), is also applied between sessions, which prevents contamination and helps control any bleeding arising from inflamed pulpal tissue. Management of internal root resorption is a complex and intricate process. This new protocol optimizes the adaptation of root sealant materials, predictably improving tooth prognosis.
