(PO57) Evaluation of Cylcic Fatigue of Rotatory Files and its Relationship With the Design, Composition and Heat Treatment

Abstract: TM, Protaper GoldTM and HyFlexTM EDM in simulated curved canals, and its correlation with the equiatomic relationship, phase transitions, and crystal structure. Sixty-nine instruments from three different rotary NiTi file systems were utilized: ProTaper Gold™ (25/.08); HyFlex™ EDM (25/.08), and ZenFlex™ (25/.06). The analysis was divided into four phases: Phase 1: SEM observation to detect manufacturing defects; Phase 2: Fracture of instruments due to cyclic fatigue in canals with a 60° curvature; Phase 3: SEM observation of the fractured fragment and obtaining a fractographic study; and Phase 4: Analytical: equiatomic relationship by ICP-OES; phase transformation by DSC; crystal structure by x-ray diffraction; and morphological analysis by SEM. Micro-cracks and cutting edge defects were observed in ZenFlex™ and ProTaper Gold™ files. The cycles until failure were 2814.50±161.58 for HyFlex™, 2649.94±88.33 for ZenFlex™, and 1362.89±88.33 for ProTaper Gold™, respectively. Different phase transition temperatures were noted, with ZenFlex™ in the austenite phase, ProTaper Gold™ in martensite, and HyFlex™ in the R phase at room temperature, corroborated by x-ray diffraction. An almost equiatomic relationship was observed for the different systems, with a reduced helical angle for ZenFlex™, followed by HyFlex™ and ProTaper Gold™. ZenFlex™ files presented greater resistance to cyclic fatigue, and their resistance is a function of their physicochemical properties, heat treatment, and design.
